Regalis, as of
In brief
German law does not set one language level for every job, but some residence titles and occupations require proof. In regulated occupations such as nursing, German is part of the authorisation, while in many other occupations the company decides. At Regalis you can register without a language certificate and submit it later.
What the law requires
Germany has no language level that applies to every job. Whether proof is needed depends on the residence title and the occupation.
Some routes require a certain level. Anyone entering through a recognition partnership, for example, needs at least adequate German under the law, which corresponds to level A2. The German mission abroad and the responsible office say which level applies in your case.
EU citizens need neither a visa nor a work permit to work in Germany. Outside the regulated occupations, the law sets them no language level. Whether German is needed is then decided by the company according to the job.
Occupations in which German is required
In regulated occupations, German is part of the authorisation. In nursing, for example, the law requires the German language skills needed for the profession. The responsible office of the federal state names the level and the proof that count.
In jobs with a lot of contact with customers, patients or guests, good German is almost always expected as well.
Occupations with lower requirements
In some jobs a basic vocabulary is enough to start if the company supports the induction. This often applies to work in production, in warehouses, on building sites or in a kitchen without contact with guests.
Whether this applies to a particular job is decided by the company. We cannot promise you a job without any German.
Why companies usually expect A2
Safety briefings, agreements in the team and instructions are given in German. Employers must instruct their staff adequately on safety and health at work, and that only works if the staff understand them.
Many companies therefore expect German from level A2 with a certificate, and more in nursing and in jobs with customer contact.
What Regalis offers
You can register with Regalis without a language certificate and submit it later. We add your profile to our candidate pool and do not turn you down because of your German alone.
As a rule, we can place candidates from level A2 with a certificate. Until then, we tell you openly where you stand and which level is usual for your occupation.
Keep learning early. Courses are available in your home country and online. As proof, however, only a recognised examination counts.
