Duties and workplaces
Welders join metal parts according to drawings and specifications. They prepare the seams, set up the equipment and check the result. Depending on the company they work with steel, stainless steel or aluminium.
Common processes such as MAG, TIG or stick welding are in particular demand. Many customers require their own certificates for their orders. This is why test certificates for each process count for a lot.
Welders work in the workshop and on installation sites. Reading drawings and handling protective equipment safely are part of the job.

Recognition
Non-regulated occupation
Depending on the reference occupation, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts or the Chamber of Industry and Commerce is responsible.
The occupation is not regulated in Germany. A company can hire a welder with a foreign certificate without that certificate being recognised. For people from countries outside the EU, however, the residence title comes into play.
The title as a skilled worker usually requires the qualification to be equivalent to a German one. In certain cases work experience can also lead to employment, under additional conditions set out by the official bodies.
Recognition compares the foreign qualification with a German reference occupation, often from the metalworking field. A metalworking occupation from the country of origin can cover parts of several German occupations. Metalworking occupations exist in the crafts and in industry.
The route starts at the portal Recognition in Germany. It lists German occupations with their content and the responsible office.
Welding tests required by customers or standards do not replace the recognition of the vocational qualification. They may still be needed for deployment in the company. Only the responsible chamber decides on equivalence. Nobody promises a result or a time frame.
German language skills
Basic knowledge is needed for drawings and briefings. Safety briefings must really be understood. There is no fixed level for everyone, however.
What is required depends on the residence title, on the position and on the company. The responsible office or the company states it in the individual case.
We record the candidates' language level on the European scale from A1 to C2 and ask for proof.
Documents
We ask welders for these documents. The test certificates for each process are especially important.
- required CV Including welding processes, materials and components.
- required Welder qualification certificates Certificates per process, for example MAG, TIG or stick welding.
- if available Employment references References from metalwork, pipework or manufacturing.
- if available German language certificate Basic skills are needed for drawings and safety briefings.
- if available Occupational safety records Briefings or records on protective equipment, if you have them.
The list is a general guide and creates no legal entitlement. The responsible office and the company say what is required in the individual case.
Training in Uzbekistan and Türkiye
Türkiye
In Türkiye vocational education usually starts at vocational upper secondary schools, for example with a metalworking focus. For many trade activities there are also state-regulated certificates of competence, for example in welding. Whether a qualification is equivalent is checked case by case by the responsible chamber.
Uzbekistan
In Uzbekistan vocational training runs through colleges and technical schools with a lot of practice. Many welders have learned their trade on the job, often abroad as well. If a certificate is missing, we record openly what is proven and what is not.
