Skilled trades

Trade businesses look for qualified workers with practice who can work on site on their own.

  • Electrician
  • Plumbing, heating and air conditioning fitter
  • Painter and decorator
  • Joiner
  • Tiler
  • Drywall fitter
  • Metalworker
  • Welder
  • Carpenter

Trade businesses decide on ability. A trial day or a short task shown on video says more than any certificate.

Language is needed on site, above all for safety and for arrangements. A basic level is enough at the start when the business supports the induction.

Many candidates bring practice from construction and fitting out. They get to know German standards and materials in the business.

Firms with their own vehicles and organised journeys have an easier time. Without a driving licence and without transport links it gets hard for candidates.

Typical requirements

  • A completed apprenticeship or several years of practice
  • German at level A2 to B1 for arrangements on site
  • Evidence of examinations and certificates
  • A category B driving licence is often asked for
  • Physical stamina and safe working
  • Readiness to work on changing sites

Typical conditions

  • Full-time from Monday to Friday
  • The business provides the vehicle and the tools
  • An allowance for jobs away from home
  • Induction by an experienced colleague
  • Further training up to master craftsman is possible

Describe your need in concrete terms

A completed requirement profile says far more than the name of an industry.
